About Us

Southern Mongolian News (sonin.org) is an online news and information platform published in Traditional Mongolian script, operated by the Southern Mongolian Human Rights Information Center (SMHRIC) and the Inner Mongolian People's Party (IMPP), U.S. Branch. The website is dedicated to providing Mongolian readers in Southern Mongolia and abroad with independent, factual news coverage, commentary, and cultural content, offering independent reporting that challenges state-dominated media narratives in China, and giving voice to Mongolians.

Our Mission

Southern Mongolian News is committed to using Traditional Mongolian script as the medium for recording , preserving , and promoting the Mongolian language , history , and culture. We focus on the realities facing Mongolians in Southern Mongolia , including issues of ethnic identity , historical memory , grassland preservation , social justice , and human rights. Our work is dedicated to:

• Defending the right to use Traditional Mongolian script and resisting linguistic and cultural assimilation ;
• Documenting and sharing the historical truths and collective memory of Southern Mongolia ;
• Reporting on the lived realities and human rights conditions of Mongolians in Southern Mongolia ;
• Providing a platform where Southern Mongolians can speak freely and exchange ideas ;
• Fostering communication and cultural connection between Mongolians inside and outside China.

On Traditional Mongolian Script

Traditional Mongolian script has a history of nearly 800 years and is a key carrier of Mongolian cultural and historical memory, as well as a core symbol of Mongolian identity. Yet as Mongolian-language instruction has been removed from formal education, an increasing number of young people are losing the ability to read and write in the traditional script.

Southern Mongolian News remains committed to publishing in Traditional Mongolian script with the aim of sustaining its use and vitality, helping readers reconnect with and value the written form of their mother tongue through everyday reading.

Our Position

Amid the gradual erosion of the mother tongue and the threat of cultural disappearance, Southern Mongolian News bears witness to Southern Mongolia and gives voice to its people. We believe that the loss of any language is a loss to human civilization, and that every suppressed history deserves to be retold. As a chronicler of our time, we are committed to presenting an accurate account of life in Southern Mongolia with integrity and responsibility.

传统蒙古文字已有近八百年的历史 , 是蒙古民族文化与历史记忆的重要载体 , 更是蒙古人身份认同的核心象征。 然而 , 随着教育体系中蒙古语授课被取消 , 越来越多年轻一代正逐渐失去使用与阅读传统蒙古文的能力。

南蒙古新闻网始终坚持以传统蒙古文字发布内容 , 希望以实际行动延续这套文字的生命力 , 让更多读者在日常阅读中重新接触并珍视自己的母语文字。
